stem of an idea

The "Stem Chair" is Paris-based designer Patrick Norguet's first collaboration with Italian furniture brand Crassevig. The design comes from Norguet's exploration of industrial production processes in combination with different materials. The delicate design draws its organic and subtly curved form from that of old European terrace or balcony wrought-iron fences.

over the road

Across the street from Philip Johnson's Glass House, is the private residence he designed in 1951 for Richard Hodgson and his family.  Lovingly restored by Craig Bassam and Scott Bellows of BassamFellows. Their own furniture designs harmonize nicely with the pieces that were designed for the house by Johnson’s office and postwar classics by Poul Kjaerholm and Hans Wegner. via

dusty deco

I love the shabby chic of this industrial loft. The owners are also owners of "Dusty Deco", the online store based in Stockholm. With its delicate balance of minimalism, like the stark white floors, they have developed a wonderful sense of modernism and whimsy.

the sunbaker

This "shed" sits on a sunbaked Australian plain as a refuge from the harsh elements. The home is another short listed entry in the 2011 Australian Interior Design Awards. The wonderfully serene and cool home is Hill Plain House in Victoria, Australia by Wolveridge Architects.

step into the void

This house is on the outskirts of , in a high position overlooking the city. The rooms are built around a void, that collects light from above and gazes at the castle in the city centre. The house, a recognizable archetype, is completely devoid of windows. The result is both sculptural and dramatic.

mountain men

This “residence in the mountain village” by MMBB is constructed using a reinforced concrete structure made of plastic shapes for the waffle slab. All the walls of the house were made in mortar, all glass is free of frames, the internal floors in graniteware and external concrete sanded. The roof slab is protected with a water surface. The outer walls are shaded with a panel made of industrial wood and cement pressed. Stunning effect.
